Squash Champions 2012 : Jacquie Evans Grant Miller
Runners Up : Heather Roberts Matt Wagg
The 2012 EGT&SC Squash Championship took place last weekend (July 21st).
The Ladies Final was won by Jacquie outclassing Heather with some great serves & better court awareness. Heather a little out of practice found the pace a bit too tough.
The Men's Final saw the same contenders as the previous 2 years. The numerous spectators were sure this match would be a close & hard fought affair. The match went to a full 5 sets, with some gruelling rallies which tested the stamina of both players. This match had everything, Grant playing some super shots drawn from his long experience in squash, Matt retrieving some almost impossible shots to extend the rallies. With a few unforced from Matt & Grant seeming to dominate the central court position, Miller ran out the winner 3-2. The crowd were not disappointed, a great game of squash, skill & sportsmanship was demonstrated.
The new squash season starts in September, with EGTSC entering a number of teams in the Sussex league - 4 Mens & 1 Ladies (see fixtures)
NEW MEMBERS ALWAYS WELCOME.
EGT&SC Squash Handicap Tournament 2010-11
Champion :
Grant Miller
Runner Up :
Ian Creelman
This year's Handicap Final was a great game of squash between Grant Miller and Ian Creelman. The spectators were treated to some truly great rallies and shot making. Both Ian and Grant are very experienced players and know the game well, this boded well in providing a game fit for the Final.
After 45 minutes of both players having to cover all sectors of the court, the sheer pace was having an effect on the pair. Grant produced a number of telling deft shots to the front corner and Ian showed some super court awareness.
Grant drew on his experience to achieve victory in 4 games, Ian felt perhaps he had to force the game by having to play winners, as the handicap adjustment was 5 points in Grant's favour.
